10.1 ALL DANCE SALSA

In this modality, routines must include at least 80% Salsa and may incorporate up to 20% of other rhythms such as Cha-Cha, Pachanga, Bolero, Son, Danzón, Mambo, Afro, Rumba, Bomba, and Plena, provided these elements naturally appear in the music. Mixing different Salsa songs is allowed, but not blending genres unrelated to the competing modality. Songs that are not originally Salsa but have been adapted to Salsa rhythm are permitted, as long as their content aligns with the modality.

Submodalities in All Dance Salsa:

Solo footwork (Full Shines) or partnerwork routines are allowed. The timing chosen (On1 or On2) must remain consistent throughout the routine.

It is allowed to switch from the On1 pattern (1 forward with the left foot and 5 back with the right foot to 5 forward with the left foot and 1 back with the right foot) and from the On2 pattern (2 forward with the left foot and 6 back with the right foot or 6 forward with the left foot and 2 back with the right foot).

A maximum of five tricks is allowed, where at least one foot or part of the body below the waist must remain on the floor during execution. Tricks involving both feet off the floor are considered lifts or acrobatic elements and will incur a deduction.

Partnerwork routines cannot include tricks or assisted acrobatics, nor can individuals perform them. The focus should be on the couple’s connection, showcasing the rhythm, interpretation, and essence of Salsa.

There are no limits on tricks, lifts, acrobatics, or artistic elements as long as the routine maintains the essence of Salsa. At least 60% of the routine must consist of Salsa.

Up to three aerial elements or acrobatics are permitted. These are not mandatory but will be evaluated for their execution and contribution to the musical interpretation. Tricks will be assessed for how they enhance the routine’s artistic and musical quality, always preserving the essence of Salsa.

If there are more than 5 Full Shines groups and 5 Partnerwork groups, they may be considered as two separate subdivisions.

Additional Definitions:

  • Trick: A movement executed with assistance from a partner, counted for the entire duration of the assistance, including checks and direction changes.
  • Turns: Maximum of 8 bars / 32 beats / 4 phrases of continuous turns is allowed. Exceeding this will result in a deduction.
  • Full Shines: Choreography entirely focused on footwork with no partnerwork.
  • Partnerwork: A mix of footwork and partner interaction, involving a leader and follower.

IMPORTANT: Alldancers must specify at the time of registration whether their group will present a Full Shines choreography or a Partnerwork choreography.

NOTES:

  • For salsa subdivisions, we will have: Soloists, Duos (Full Shines or Partnerwork), Trios, and Groups. Groups can be Full Shines or Partnerwork.
  • Soloists will be divided by levels and divisions, not by submodalities. Each dancer can choose the musical timing they will dance to (On1 or On2) as well as the dance style they will use within the SALSA styles allowed by All Dance International (New York, LA, Cuban, Puerto Rican, Mambo, or Caleño).
