SALSA DANCE

Is a form of dance that originated from the musical genre “salsa” which had its beginnings in Latin America, salsa dance has different styles from the regions where it has been developed. Within this modality, the choreographic proposals must be accompanied by salsa music and may contain a maximum of 30% derived from salsa, such as Pachanga, Chachachá, bolero, son, danzón, mambo, among others.

Salsa Cabaret style allows the integration of different styles and rhythms applied to salsa (New York, Los Angeles, Puerto Rico, and Cali), as well as the execution of figures, lifts, and acrobatics that cause emotion in the spectators for their high visual impact and spectacle. For the choreographic proposal in this style, a minimum of 3 acrobatic and/or gymnastic elements and a maximum of 10 are allowed. It is important to emphasize that if the acrobatics is in sequence, without pause or intermediate dance, and without touching the floor, it is counted as 1 acrobatic element.

Salsa Caleño style is recognized by its characteristic movements in traditional steps and figures of the style (fast movements of feet and hips) to which are added acrobatic figures below shoulder height. A maximum of 3 acrobatic and/or gymnastic elements are allowed.

Colombian style time may be marked on odd counts: 1-3-5 and 7.

The tempo of the Salsa On1 is recognized as 1-2-3 5-6-7 (4 and 8 in silence). Competitors must break to dance on beat 1 of the music (For couples: the leader starts forward with the left foot on beat 1 and the follower starts back on beat 1 with the right foot. For soloists: start on beat 1 with the left foot). No points will be deducted if the leader breaks forward on beat 5 with his left foot or the follower breaks forward on beat 1 with his left foot in the same routine. No points will be deducted if the soloist breaks forward on beat 5 on the left foot and on beat 1 on the left foot in the same routine. If the timing is not consistent with the category, or at the beginning of the choreography, points will be deducted in the musicality item. Up to 2 acrobatics are allowed.

The tempo of the Salsa On2/Mambo is recognized as 1-2-3 5-6-7 (4 and 8 in silence). Competitors must break to dance on beat 2 of the music. (For couples: the follower breaks to dance forward with the left foot on beat 2 or the leader breaks to dance forward on beat 6 with the left foot. For soloists: break to dance on beat 2 with the left foot). No points will be deducted if the leader breaks to dance forward on beat 2 with the left foot and the follower breaks to dance forward on beat 6 with the left foot in the same routine. No points will be deducted if the soloist breaks forward on beat 2 with the left foot and on beat 6 with the left foot in the same routine. If the timing is not consistent with the category, or at the beginning of the choreography, points will be deducted in musicality, failure to demonstrate the basic salsa rhythm will result in a reduction of points. In this category, only tricks (dips) will be allowed, not acrobatic or gymnastic elements.
